Well this is it. I pulled it from a Facebook post from a while back but it still rings true today and it is what inspired our story for the website.
We work together. We go home together. And this our day to day. In our early years Joel took pride in doing a lot of the work himself. Today we have an incredible team to support us but Joel still works on every project and he wouldn't have it any other way. He builds amazing things, beautiful things and he meticulously plans out the tiniest details of all of our projects. He just doesn't do printers (or spreadsheets for that matter). That's where I come in. I fix things. Things like printers and spreadsheets. I build beautiful things too. Things like websites, or 3D renderings that bring our clients floor plans to life. I choose colors. And on occasion I paint.
At the end of the day he and I are alike in all the ways that matter. Like our vision and our values for both our family and our business. We are patient, optimistic and forgiving. We believe in being thorough and doing the work upfront even though we know someone else might still win the bid. We believe in staying small and being intentional in choosing the projects we take on. This means we get to pour our heart and soul into our projects without feeling the pressure to cut corners. We get to be on the jobsite, do the work and build relationships that are authentic. We get to own a business that affords us balance. The balance that allowed us to take that trip or to stay a week or two in Iowa when our grandchildren were born.
We aren't exactly alike (how boring would that be) but we embrace our differences because it is these differences allow us to do our greatest work. He likes to focus on what's right in front of us and plan out our days. Meanwhile I shoot for the horizon and paint a picture of where we could be in the next year or the next decade. I tend to over simplify. He tends to overthink . We meet in the middle. We challenge each other. We laugh. We love our life, our business and our family.
